i love refreshing weekends with friends. it is one of the things that keeps me balanced and a happy person. my friend heather came to see me this weekend. it was a glorious time. she got in friday early evening and left sunday early evening. almost 48 full, wonderful hours with her. i dont get to see her enough and she will be moving out of state, so that means my chances of seeing her "regularly" will be slim. but we have a great relationship. we can go for weeks, even months, without speaking and pick right up where we left off. after spending hours of catching up and drinking coffee of course :) we always have things to talk and laugh about. we take endless pictures of ourselves and make ridiculous faces. we cry together and share our hardships and worries about life. we have a very special bond. she gets me and i get her. we are much alike - almost like sisters.
this weekend was especially meaningful to me for some reason though. our time together wasnt rushed. we ate a lot of food. we worked out. we grazed in Target and the mall. in fact, neither of us looked at our watches until 5:00pm on Saturday and realized: Oh Crap! We have to go home and get ready! so we rushed out of the mall and went straight home.
its so fun getting ready with girlfriends! its one of those things that makes being a girl so fun. for example, proms in high school were usually lame and over dramatic. but getting ready with the girls was always the best part. and since i live alone, getting all dolled up for the night out was so fun! usually if i go out or get dressed up, it only takes about 45 minutes [shower, do the hair and make up, get dressed... i don't take too long]. but heather and i took a solid 2 hours. we listened to music and drank pepsi. it was lovely.
then we headed out to meet up with my lovely boyfriend and some of our friends. [ i call them "our" friends but they were originally were his... i just chose to adopt them and call them my friends too. at least i like to think they are my friends too :) ] we went to a sushi place in lansing. i havent really had sushi before. i can't say i am going to venture out again any further than the california rolls. im a fan of crab though, so those are probably my favorite. i did try the spicy salmon roll... not bad but it was slimy. i ended up giving away most of the roll. i did try a sweet potato roll. that was delicious! but its not really sushi lol. oh well. stick it what i know and like for now. i also had a pomegranate martini which was yummy!
then after laying out the options for dancing, we chose to see a band called Starfarm [80's cover band. they wear ridiculous clothing- mostly neon colors. but they are fun]. regardless of what everyone else wanted to do, heather and i were determined to dance. we had a lot of energy and needed an outlet!
we ended up dancing until the wee hours. it was such a blast! my feet KILLED though! the price we pay to look good! ;) i was so incredibly tired though- given it was daylight savings time..well that made me more tired.
sunday we went to church, went for pizza with the normal crew and went home to sleep and watch FRIENDS for 2 hours. it was 63 degrees out. my windows were open. i could hear the windchimes a chimen, it was the perfect lazy sunday.
i couldnt ask for better friends and a better boyfriend. i am truly blessed.
p.s. today is my bestie's birthday! she is in Haiti so i cannot celebrate with her :( if she were in MI i am certain she would have joined us this weekend. Happy Birthday Kate! love you and miss you dearly!
la ta di da...love the life you lead.
